Joe Lycett was banished during the latest episode of The Celebrity Traitors, and fans have admitted to being surprised by their own emotional reactions to his exit from the Scottish castle.
Viewers of the BBC gameshow's spin-off series were left tearful as another star's departure was sealed on Friday, October 16. The episode marked the third in the series, following the show's return earlier this month for a second round after its successful first series last year.
Recruitment and confusion at breakfast
As fans saw, Hannah Fry was banished, and King Kenny was recruited in her place by the Traitors during Thursday's (October 15) episode of the Claudia Winkleman-fronted show. As Friday's instalment got underway, there was confusion at breakfast as the celebrities reunited and realised there had been no murder.
Speculation was rife that a recruitment had taken place, but before they had time to think about it, Claudia arrived, and it was soon time for their next mission. After banking £7,500 in the latest challenge for the prize fund, the celebrities headed back to the castle, and theories were swirling ahead of the next roundtable.
Joe's banishment and final words
When it came down to it, Joe Lycett and Joanne McNally appeared to be facing the most heat from their fellow players, but Joe was voted out after receiving the most votes, after seemingly talking his way into his banishment. During the discussion, Joe said: "Let's say [the Traitors] were down to two last night and they recruited. There's so much heat on me for what I was doing last night that there's a good chance I'll go tonight, which means that they'll then have to recruit again tonight, denying them a murder."
When it came to the votes, Joe almost had a clean sweep, but Miranda Hart couldn't turn on her friend and voted for Ross Kemp instead, which drew laughs from the celebrities. In his final speech, the comedian said: "Absolutely loved it. Total dream... I do think we're a family now and expect to be in all of your wills... I always wanted to start as a faithful and end as a traitor. I started as a Faithful. I did not get my wish. I am a Faithful."
Fans' emotional reactions
While Miranda was seen getting emotional in the castle, Celebrity Traitors fans admitted to feeling surprisingly overcome with emotion watching from home. @Mrs_AhmedZaman said: "I can't believe I've just cried at Joe Lycett being banished WHAT HAS THIS SHOW DONE TO ME??? #CelebrityTraitors." @omfgitstaffie commented: "All over a dumb mistake man what a shame #celebritytraitors."
