Shahar, 29, a graphic designer and music label manager, met Stephen, 34, a product designer, for a blind date at Cooper's Cut in London EC3. The pair spent nearly five hours together over dinner, discussing their careers, music, cooking, and films.
First impressions and conversation
Shahar said her first impression of Stephen was that he was "kind, a bit nervous" and "very engaged, but kind of in awe of the situation." They talked about their careers in design, music, what they like to cook, artwork and posters they own, his extensive cap collection, and films. The most awkward moment came when Stephen asked if her disco ball tattoo was an onion.
Stephen's first impression of Shahar was "gorgeous hair, an American accent." They compared graphics, recent albums, films and cinema etiquette, then moved on to how fancy the venue was, their favourite things to cook, the perils of dating apps, and the lost art of flirting. He noted there was no major awkward moment, though he did refer to Shahar as "the lady," which they both laughed about.
Manners and chemistry
Both praised each other's table manners. Shahar described Stephen as "thoughtful, authentic, curious" and said the best thing about him was that he was "really engaged, easy to talk to, made me laugh – and very generous with compliments." Stephen described Shahar as "elegant, chatty, curly" and admired her passion and approach to design.
Neither felt the date led to a kiss. Shahar said, "We did not," while Stephen explained, "The vibe didn't lend itself to kissing, and that's OK; there was lots to take in." They did not go on to another venue; Shahar noted they spent four hours over dinner and it was a Sunday, so they called it a night. Stephen suggested another drink, but it was too late.
Ratings and future plans
Shahar rated the date 8 out of 10, adding "8.5 really, but I'm honouring Stephen's dislike of .5 ratings." Stephen also gave it 8, saying, "I couldn't judge a person like that." Both said they would consider meeting again, with Shahar mentioning they chatted about maybe going to a gig or the cinema, and Stephen saying he gave her his number.
