The BBC has confirmed that DIY SOS, the renovation show hosted by Nick Knowles since 1999, is being rested in 2027 as part of cost-cutting measures. The broadcaster will instead commission a new spin-off show from producers South Shore.
A BBC spokesperson told The Sun: "In light of savings challenges we have taken the decision to rest DIY SOS in 2027 and commission a new spin-off show instead from producers South Shore."
New spin-off show announced
The spokesperson added: "DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life (w/t) will revisit successes from the show's past and expand the brand on the BBC in a more cost-effective way next year."
Sources said Nick and the team are "devastated" by the decision, which they were told was due to the need for savings. One source told The Sun: "Nick and the entire team are devastated. The decision, they were told, is down to cost-savings being needed. To them it's a slap in the face because so many people give their time and materials for nothing. Tears have been shed by all. Like the viewers they see first hand how much DIY SOS has helped people over the years."
No Big Build for Children In Need this year
The BBC also confirmed there will not be a Big Build for Children In Need this year. Last year, DIY SOS built a £1million children's cancer care unit in Northwich, Cheshire, in just 12 days.
This week, in an episode from the 35th series, the team helped a family in Lancashire renovate their house to allow their son Dan, 17, to come home from hospital after three years. Dan has been left with disabilities after a life-saving operation to remove a brain tumour.
His dad Nigel told the BBC: "You can't help but be humbled about how many people have given up their time, companies giving materials to make this happen because without that it just wouldn't happen. I'm so grateful to everybody... I can't hammer home how many good people that are out there. It renews your faith in humankind."
