Fans of The Celebrity Traitors are convinced they have worked out which contestant was banished first after uncovering a subtle clue in the latest episode. The BBC competition returned to screens on October 1 and featured one of the biggest Traitors blunders in the show's history.
Claudia Winkleman separated the 21 players into Faithfuls and Traitors, choosing Love Island host Maya Jama and actor Richard E. Grant as her Traitor duo. Richard, 69, was reportedly thrilled to be selected as one of the show's villains, but made a huge blunder when he told a room full of Faithfuls that he was actually a Traitor.
Richard's slip-up
Richard later explained to the camera that the slip-up may have been “the biggest mistake I have ever made”. Viewers are convinced it has cost him a spot in the castle.
The latest episode ended on a cliffhanger as the contestants gathered for their first banishment of the series, but the scene faded to black before anyone cast a vote. The abrupt ending has left viewers convinced that Richard was banished by his co-stars following an almost unanimous vote, with fans suggesting the broadcaster cut the episode because most Faithfuls will vote for him.
Fan theories
One viewer posted on social media: “I'm assuming the reason they cut it there is cus the votes aren't going to be close and the majority is going to be for Richard. and since getting out a traitor on the first round table is such a huge iconic moment for the show they've made it so we're left on this huge cliff-hanger for a week until we see the moment unfold.”
Another shared the same theory, writing: “No Voting Cliffhanger which means EVERYONE voted for Richard E Grant. He will OFFICIALLY go down as the WORST Traitor of all time #CelebrityTraitors #Thetraitors.” A third fan added: “I think its a majority vote for Richard and they didn't want to make the murder the cliffhanger because we already found out who the options were earlier in the episode.”
Viewer reactions
Others are bracing themselves for the star's early exit, with one fan posting: “If Richard actually goes this early I'll be gutted. He may be an absolutely catastrophic Traitor but he's definitely entertaining.” A second added: “I can't even be mad I'd just feel bad for him he wanted that Traitor role so badly.”
