Clara, the latest baker to leave The Great British Bake Off, has addressed her elimination during Pastry Week, appearing on the Channel 4 companion programme Second Helpings alongside this week's Star Baker, Tom.
The Portuguese contestant was sent home on Tuesday (October 28) after failing to impress judges Nigella Lawson and Paul Hollywood. Six bakers remain in the competition and will return to the tent next week to compete for a place in the quarter-final.
Clara reflects on her time in the tent
Speaking on Second Helpings, presented by Jon Richardson and Judi Love, Clara said: "I am so, so proud. I would never think I was going to be in the tent. So, episode three, episode six, whatever episode I was leaving, I was still happy that I at least got in and I've done it."
She added: "I was expecting [to go], obviously. I'm not amazing at pastry. I love doing it. So, when I was doing the Technical, I was already like, 'Okay, just accept and have fun'. And I did have a lot of fun, I think it was really nice."
Clara also admitted she would have changed the shape and filling of her Signature pastries, remarking "What was I thinking?" and acknowledging she got "a bit carried away" with her deer-shaped design.
Social media spoiler prompts backlash
Before her Second Helpings appearance, Clara posted an Instagram video of herself and Tom outside the recording studios, captioned "HOW IM LEAVING THE TENT."
She also featured in a selfie with last week's eliminated contestant, Yannis, who commented: "Eurosummer is officially over. Your Week 5 and 6 Europeans have left the tent. Catch my sis Clara on Second Helpings tonight with our gorgina bestie (who also took this banger of a pic) @tomwhittxker."
American viewers expressed disappointment at the spoiler, as fresh episodes air every Friday in the US, while British audiences watch on Tuesday evenings. One individual complained: "Please stop giving spoilers to us audience," while another questioned "WHY SPOIL?" A third remarked: "The episode doesn't air in the US until Friday."
Yannis responds to US viewers
Yannis subsequently addressed the backlash, stating: "A little note to our lovely American viewers! We completely understand the frustration around spoilers! Bake Off airs in the UK every Tuesday at 8pm, followed immediately by Second Helpings, a live show featuring the departing baker, which we naturally want to promote and support!"
He added: "We appreciate the dilemma of wanting to follow us without spoilers, but we also want to celebrate these moments as they happen here in the UK. Thank you for all the love from across the pond!" The Great British Bake Off is available to stream on Channel 4.
