Amanda Owen on Chalky's death as family gets three new puppies

Amanda Owen reflected on the death of her beloved dog Chalky during the latest episode of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids, which aired on Monday night. Chalky passed away peacefully in October 2025 at Ravenseat Farm, and the family were seen gathering to bury the dog during a past episode of the show.

Amanda on Chalky's final moments

Amanda admitted: "It was really clear and obvious that Chalky was fading away." Reflecting on the moment she received the news, the mother of nine continued: "When the children came running out of the house door saying that Chalky had passed away, they were absolutely bereft, and they knew it was coming, and I knew it was coming."

Amanda went on: "But still, just to see her laid there, as peaceful as anything and still warm, it pulled at your heartstrings. No, she's had a good life."

Filling the gap left by Chalky

As the family prepared to look after some beagle puppies for a friend, Amanda admitted that it was the perfect way to "fill the gap" left by Chalky, who had died just weeks before. "We've had a couple of months without Chalky and it has been a little bit strange. You know, they're a part of the family. We'd had her for 14 years, you know, had her since she was a puppy," she added.

Amanda's daughter Nancy explained that they hoped to find a new friend for their other dog, Sprout, following Chalky's death. Sprout would soon be introduced to several new friends, as Amanda and Clive later surprised their daughters with three new puppies.

Surprise puppies for the family

Clive said: "So, we have a bit of a surprise for the girls tonight, because I've been hunting around for a new terrier, and so I haven't found one, I've found two. So tonight, they don't know, we're gonna surprise them with two little, tiny baby terriers. So, I expect them to be very excited and it'll be great fun."

After surprising the girls with the two puppies, Amanda said: "Dad sorted out getting two Jack Russells, and I didn't know he'd done that. And I sorted out getting a puppy replacement as well, but I got a different sort!" Miles then walked in with a third puppy called Dora.

"You're gonna be busy, you guys! Long walks needed!" Amanda said, before telling the cameras: "They were so excited. They had no clue there was puppies coming, and I mean, to be quite honest with you, Clive didn't know the other one was coming. So, I think there was quite a lot of surprised people there!"

She concluded: "We were looking for a replacement for the gap that Chalky has left. Perhaps not another three dogs! There's a lot of training to do, a lot of walking to do, a lot of feeding to do, but that's what we enjoy. That's what we all enjoy."
