Alex Jones shared a heartfelt message with Sara Cox during an appearance on The One Show, after the Radio 2 Breakfast Show host described her new role as "the best job in the world".
The Welsh presenter was joined by Clara Amfo on Friday evening's (September 4) programme, where the pair spoke to Sara about life at the helm of BBC Radio 2's Breakfast Show.
Sara has now spent around two months presenting the morning programme after taking over from Scott Mills, but her appearance on the BBC sofa made it clear the excitement has not worn off.
"Seeing your little face nearly makes me cry"
Alex was quick to ask how she was finding the job, and Sara did not hesitate when describing her new morning routine. She praised the show's listeners, music and guests, revealing that she spends much of her working day laughing and having fun.
For Alex, Sara's enthusiasm was infectious. Turning to her guest, she said: "Seeing your little face nearly makes me cry, honestly." Clara agreed, telling Sara that her happiness was obvious to anyone watching.
Two decades at the BBC
Sara's arrival in the Breakfast Show studio is the latest chapter in a BBC career spanning more than two decades. She originally joined BBC Radio 1 in 1999, where she became one of the station's best-known voices and went on to host its Breakfast Show.
Her connection with Radio 2 began in 2011, when she started appearing on the station as a stand-in presenter. One of her early opportunities came when she covered for Claudia Winkleman on the comedy series Hot Gossip.
Sara gradually became a familiar face and voice across the schedule, covering for a number of established presenters. That eventually led to her own regular show, with Sara launching Sounds of the 80s in 2013. She later took on a late-night programme before moving into the hugely popular Teatime slot in 2018.
A "full circle" moment
The Teatime show became a major part of her Radio 2 career and was later extended to three hours. When the opportunity to take over Breakfast finally arrived, Sara made no secret of how significant it was to her. She said the job had been a dream since the day she joined Radio 2, describing the move as a "full circle" moment.
At the time, when she hosted the show for the first time, she said: "It takes quite a lot to make me speechless, but when I got asked to host the Radio 2 breakfast show I was momentarily lost for words."
The presenter admitted that it had been an "absolute blast" hosting teatime, describing her tenure as a "golden seven years", but added she was "absolutely buzzing" to be taking over breakfast. "It's always been my dream," she added. "My energy has always been 'waiting-in-the-wings gal', but I'm so glad it's happening now, because I would not swap the last seven years of teatime for anything."
