Former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer swapped his commentary microphone for a karaoke one on Sunday after the World Cup final, belting out Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up and The Killers' Mr Brightside at a New York bar.
Post-match celebrations
Shearer, who has been a mainstay on BBC's Match of the Day and a regular pundit at major tournaments, was part of the BBC commentary team for the World Cup. He traveled across the Atlantic to team up with Guy Mowbray for England's games and the final between Spain and Argentina.
The final was decided by a single goal in extra time, with Spain winning after Argentina were reduced to 10 men. This contrasted sharply with the thrilling 6-4 win for England over France in Saturday's bronze medal game.
Karaoke with Micah Richards
After a hectic few weeks traveling across the United States, Shearer unwound with colleagues, including former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, at a New York karaoke bar. Richards, who co-hosts Netflix's The Rest is Football with Shearer, captured footage of Shearer singing and shared it on his Instagram story.
Shearer got particularly into The Killers' anthem, climbing onto a table to belt out the last few lyrics as the song ended, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Previous New York antics
Last week, Shearer visited the famous Newcastle supporters' pub Peter Dillons in New York for a few pints to get over England's World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina. This followed Sam Fender joining Lewis Capaldi at the same bar weeks earlier.
