Numerous court documents identifying associates of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were made public on Wednesday. Among the high-profile names unsealed are Prince Andrew, former US president Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and David Copperfield.
The documents were filed as part of Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite convicted in 2021 of sex trafficking. In a deposition, Maxwell confirmed Prince Andrew visited Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands, but insisted there were no girls present other than staff.
Johanna Sjoberg, whom Maxwell allegedly procured for Epstein, gave a deposition claiming Epstein said Clinton “likes them young, referring to girls”. Sjoberg also said she met Michael Jackson at Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion, but did not massage him. She described David Copperfield performing magic tricks at dinner and asking if she knew girls were paid to recruit other girls.
Donald Trump, whose past association with Epstein is known, was mentioned in the documents without accusation. Sjoberg recalled visiting one of Trump’s casinos in Atlantic City after a storm diverted Epstein’s plane. A separate anecdote described Sjoberg being shown a puppet of Prince Andrew by Maxwell, which she brought to the living room.
The inclusion of names does not imply wrongdoing; many had been publicly known as Epstein associates. Clinton’s spokesperson previously denied any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes, and Trump is not accused of any offence.
