TalkSPORT presenter swears live on air after name stumble

TalkSPORT presenter Shebahn Aherne accidentally swore live on air while reading a football bulletin on Sunday's Weekend Sports Breakfast. The blunder happened as she tried to pronounce the surname of Middlesbrough forward Will Lankshear, who had scored twice in the club's Championship win over West Bromwich Albion.

Awkward moment on air

Presenting alongside former Republic of Ireland star Tony Cascarino, Aherne stumbled over the striker's name during the update. She said: “Some of your headlines this morning: Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with a minimum of 22 million to sign Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace. Will Lankshear... Lank... w***... Lankshear!”

The slip-up prompted laughter from Cascarino, who responded with an amused: “Oh dear.” Aherne quickly attempted to continue with the bulletin but was clearly aware of what had happened, turning to the production team to ask if the moment had been cut from the broadcast.

Presenter jokes about Ofcom fine

Aherne repeated Lankshear's name and carried on with the football update before checking with producer Sam to see if the awkward moment had been removed. She discovered it had gone out live. Rather than becoming flustered, she embraced the situation, jokingly questioning why the moment would have been taken out and admitting she had let slip a “really offensive swear word”.

She then laughed off the possibility of trouble over the broadcast, quipping that she would pay any potential Ofcom fine herself. With the incident behind them, Aherne and Cascarino returned to the morning's coverage, discussing the latest Championship action before the programme moved on to an interview with West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Weekend Sports Breakfast airs on talkSPORT on Sunday mornings from 7am, with the programme also streamed live on YouTube and available through the talkSPORT app and website.
