In a series of tweets, King imagined Obama personally wiretapping the White House and stealing strawberry ice cream, mimicking Trump's characteristic punctuation and phrasing. The tweets were widely shared, but also drew criticism from some former fans who accused King of being a 'cry baby.'
King, a long-time critic of Trump, previously rewrote the nursery rhyme 'Humpty Dumpty' to mock the president's proposed border wall. His latest Twitter story comes after Trump accused Obama of orchestrating a wiretap during the 2016 election, a claim denied by former intelligence chief James Clapper.
Meanwhile, former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has launched a new Twitter account in English, despite banning the platform in Iran in 2009 during protests against his re-election. His account, which has not been verified, posted a video message saying 'Peace and love, best wishes.' Iranian social media users, who still face restrictions on Twitter, mocked the irony of Ahmadinejad using a platform he once censored.
In a separate development, seven-year-old Bana al-Abed, known for tweeting from besieged Aleppo, has called on UK Prime Minister Theresa May to help Syria's children. Her plea adds to ongoing international appeals for humanitarian aid in the conflict-ridden country.
