Woman Discovers Secret Apartment Behind Bathroom Mirror in New York

A New York woman has uncovered a hidden three-bedroom apartment behind a bathroom mirror in her home, sparking comparisons to horror films. Samantha Hartsoe, 26, was investigating a cold draft in her bathroom when she made the startling discovery on Roosevelt Island.

In a series of TikTok videos that went viral, Hartsoe documented her exploration of the concealed space. After removing the mirror, she found a hole leading to the secret apartment. Armed with a hammer and a makeshift headlamp, she climbed through, despite warnings from her roommate about potential danger.

Inside, Hartsoe found open windows, heaps of trash bags, and an empty water bottle, which she described as a 'sign of life'. However, further inspection revealed ripped-up floors, exposed piping, and no toilet or bathtub, leading her to conclude the space was uninhabitable.

The mystery of the apartment's origin remains unsolved, with building managers reportedly unable to provide answers. Hartsoe admitted she was on edge during the exploration, half-expecting to find someone inside. She now avoids her bathroom as much as possible.

Speculating on the viral appeal of her discovery, Hartsoe suggested that New Yorkers, often living in cramped quarters, are fascinated by the prospect of finding extra space. 'Everyone's hoping for more space,' she said.
