Authorities in Arizona have yet to identify a suspect in the apparent abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie. The Pima County Sheriff's Department stated that detectives are continuing to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs Guthrie and are working with the family.
In a statement on X, the department said: 'At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs Guthrie.' The statement also urged the public to avoid sharing unverified accusations or false information, which it said does not assist the investigation.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday after a family member received a call from her church saying she was not there. After searching her home near Tucson, family members reported her missing. She is believed to have been last seen around 9.30pm on Saturday night. Sheriff Chris Nanos said she is very limited in mobility and did not leave on her own, citing evidence at the scene.
According to the Los Angeles Times, citing two law enforcement sources, signs of forced entry and blood were found at her residence in the Catalina Foothills area. Savannah Guthrie, who has co-anchored NBC's Today show since 2012, has cancelled plans to travel to Milan for the Olympic opening ceremony and is currently in Arizona with her family.
