New details have surfaced regarding the night in 2010 when Ruby Rose alleges that Katy Perry sexually assaulted her at a nightclub in Melbourne, Australia. Victoria Police have officially opened an investigation into the incident, which Rose claims occurred at Spice Market on August 15 of that year. Perry, aged 41, strongly denies the allegations, and recently resurfaced footage from Channel 10 shows the pop star attending a high school formal to surprise fans on the very same evening.
The Night's Events Unfold
Rose, now 40, and Perry were seen beginning their night by crashing a senior send-off event at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne. Perry entertained the crowd by singing a few songs, including Beyoncé's Single Ladies. Students formed a circle in the venue as they watched their classmates dance, with Perry eventually joining in. The hitmaker was nearly unrecognisable to the students, as she appeared to be wearing a short black wig. One person could be heard asking, 'Is that Katy Perry?' to which another responded, 'Oh, my God. It is!'
While Rose was not visible in this footage, it is understood that she also attended the formal with Perry before both left for Spice Market. A former manager of the nightclub, which is located within the Grand Hyatt, confirmed that Rose and Perry had visited the venue together that night. A resurfaced photo shows the pair entering the club alongside other guests, with Perry still wearing the same outfit from the formal.
Allegations and Denials Intensify
The ex-staffer alleged that the stars had 'too much to drink' and were later sneaked out through the back door when they departed. 'They were drunk, they weren't paralytic or anything… just like any other person drinking at a nightclub,' the former manager told the Herald Sun. He described their appearance as a 'security nightmare' due to the 600 other patrons present. At one point, Perry is said to have danced 'right in the middle of the mosh pit'. The businessman noted that Perry and Rose spent time in a private VIP area with friends and were escorted out via a back entrance to a private car, adding that he witnessed no sexual assault occur.
Victoria Police are actively investigating the sexual assault allegations made by Rose against Perry. A spokesperson stated, 'Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010. Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD.' They emphasised that it would be inappropriate to comment further as the investigation is ongoing.
Responses from Both Parties
Rose has since posted on Threads, indicating she can no longer discuss the incident while police investigate her claims. She wrote, 'Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.' She added that this is a standard police request and allows her to begin the healing process.
In response, Perry's representative issued a statement denying the allegations, calling them 'dangerous and reckless lies'. The statement noted, 'The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies. Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.' Rose had previously claimed in a social media post that the incident took place when she was in her twenties and that it took her 'almost two decades' to speak about it publicly.
