Nick Reiner's Bizarre Party Behaviour Before Alleged Double Murder of Parents
Nick Reiner's party before alleged parent murder

Hollywood was rocked this week by the shocking alleged double murder of legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, with their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, charged in connection with the brutal killings. The grim events unfolded just hours after Nick exhibited disturbing behaviour at a star-studded holiday party.

Bizarre Behaviour at a Hollywood Gathering

According to reports, the tragic sequence began at comedian Conan O'Brien's holiday party. Nick Reiner, introduced to Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader by his father, reportedly began badgering the comedian with a series of strange and insistent questions. Witnesses state he repeatedly asked Hader, "What's your name? What's your last name? Are you famous?"

The interaction turned tense when Hader indicated he was in a private conversation. Nick Reiner allegedly became irate, staring before storming off. This unsettling incident occurred less than 24 hours before his parents were found dead.

A Gruesome Discovery in a Brentwood Mansion

In the early morning hours of Sunday, prosecutors allege the murders took place inside the Reiners' $13.5 million Los Angeles mansion in the exclusive Brentwood area. The couple, Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were reportedly stabbed to death, possibly while asleep in bed.

The discovery was made on Sunday afternoon when a massage therapist arrived for a scheduled appointment and could not gain entry. The therapist alerted the couple's daughter, Romy, 28, who lives across the street. Romy managed to open the door and was met with the horrific scene of her father's lifeless body before fleeing the home.

She only learned her mother was also dead when paramedics arrived and delivered the grim news. Romy had her roommate call 911 while she contacted her father's longtime friend, actor Billy Crystal.

Arrest, Charges, and a Troubled History

Nick Reiner was not at the scene. Investigators found he had checked into The Pierside Santa Monica hotel at 4am using his own credit card, where staff later reported finding a shower "full of blood." He was arrested later that day, around 9.15pm, at a Los Angeles metro station in Exposition Park, roughly 15 miles from the crime scene.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has charged Nick Reiner with two counts of first-degree murder with a special allegation of using a dangerous weapon. If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole or potentially the death penalty. He is currently being held without bail and on suicide watch.

The motive remains unclear, though Nick has a long, public history of drug addiction. By age 22, he had been to rehab 17 times and experienced periods of homelessness. He and his father had previously collaborated on the 2016 film Being Charlie, a semi-autobiographical project about addiction that Rob Reiner said helped them "work through a lot of stuff." Recent reports suggest Nick was struggling again, which may have prompted his parents to bring him to the party to keep an eye on him.

District Attorney Hochman called the murders "shocking and tragic," vowing to pursue justice for the renowned filmmaker and his wife of over 35 years. The case has sent waves of grief and disbelief through the entertainment community and beyond.
