Netflix's latest true crime documentary series, 'Can I Tell You a Secret?', has become the most-watched show in the UK since its release on 21 February. The two-part docuseries, produced by Louis Theroux's Mindhouse, examines the case of Matthew Hardy, one of the UK's most prolific cyberstalkers.
The series follows the stories of three women—Abby Furness, Lia Marie Hambly, and Zoe Jade Hallam—who were targeted by Hardy. He initially approached them with seemingly harmless messages before escalating to a barrage of communications to them, their friends, and families, using fake social media profiles to share private information and lies.
Hardy's reign of terror lasted 11 years, targeting at least 62 victims. In 2022, he received the longest custodial prison sentence in British history for online stalking, nine years. The documentary highlights the work of police constable Kevin Anderson, who was instrumental in tracking Hardy down.
Viewers have described the series as 'haunting' and 'creepy', with one social media user stating, 'The mental torture he did deserves a lot longer sentence than he was given.' The show has knocked romantic drama 'One Day' from the top spot on Netflix UK.
