Naomi Osaka once again transformed the All England Club into a runway on Wednesday morning, day three of Wimbledon. The four-time Grand Slam champion walked onto Court 2 to face McCartney Kessler wearing a striking white jacket adorned with flowers on the back, a kimono-style belt, and a long tulle train trailing behind her.
Osaka's Outfit Details
The Japanese star donned the full ensemble as she approached the net for the coin toss with the umpire and her opponent. However, she removed the train and the kimono belt before beginning her warm-up, leaving the jacket on her courtside chair for the match.
This follows her first-round appearance on Monday, where she wore a white flowing kimono that drew widespread attention. Osaka, seeded No. 14, defeated Elsa Jacquemot 6-1, 7-5 in that match.
Inspiration from Japanese Heritage and Film
After her first-round win, Osaka explained her fashion choice: "For me, my Japanese heritage means a lot. They say all white at Wimbledon and I thought it would be really cool to come out in a kimono." She added, "I just get inspired by a lot of different things, and for me, one of my favorite movies is ‘Kill Bill.’ So I really love Lucy Liu’s character, O-Ren Ishii, and she comes out in this really iconic white kimono."
Osaka elaborated on her mindset: "I always tell people I like to be like a video game character sometimes, I don’t want to be myself when I’m playing on the court. And I kind of try to embody her a little."
Continued Tradition of Fashion Statements
This marks Osaka's ongoing tradition of making bold fashion statements at Wimbledon, blending her Japanese heritage with the tournament's all-white dress code. Her unique style continues to capture attention both on and off the court.
