A mysterious figure dressed head-to-toe in a black cat suit has been reported creeping across parts of the Wirral late at night, leaving residents puzzled and unsettled. The person, wearing a skin-tight suit with cat ears and a full-face mask, has been seen crawling through sand dunes, hiding behind bus stops, and in one video approaching a parked car.
First sightings were near Wallasey Beach, but the figure has since been spotted in New Brighton, Moreton and Leasowe Bay. The appearances have led to the creation of a Facebook group called "Cat Man Sightings Wirral," which has attracted more than 2,000 members sharing photos and videos of their encounters.
Nightly, dozens of cars gather at the top of New Brighton as residents armed with torches search for the so-called "Wirral Cat Man." One resident described a chilling encounter at Fort Perch Rock car park, reporting that a silhouetted figure banged on their car window and said "meow" repeatedly, with only piercing eyes visible through the mask.
Another local reported seeing the figure "prowling around" Leasowe Bay, and when they tried to call it with a "pss pss," it scattered. A separate person took a picture of the view near Leasowe Bay and later spotted a black figure in the image; on switching on their phone flash, they saw the "cat man" staring directly at them, leaving them "absolutely shaken."
The phenomenon has also gained attention on TikTok, with one video showing dozens of vehicles at New Brighton, with the filmer exclaiming: "The whole of the Wirral has gone mad!" Another clip, shared by Vicki Cummings and viewed nearly 170,000 times, captures people screaming as the figure crawls on all fours towards their car. As yet, the identity of the "cat man" remains unknown.
