Melania Trump continues to keep a close watch over her son Barron as he starts his sophomore year at New York University’s Stern School of Business, according to a source close to the family. The former first lady’s constant worry about bullying or mistreatment drives her efforts to monitor his activities closely.
A political insider told People magazine: “Melania watches Barron constantly in an effort to be sure nobody messes with him or bullies him, as this is a constant worry with her. She always knows where he is and what he’s doing.” The 19-year-old began his studies at NYU in September 2024 amid his father Donald Trump’s third presidential campaign, which culminated in a November election win and January 2025 inauguration.
Despite Barron’s age, Melania has opted against on-campus housing. Instead, he resides at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan. A source explained last year that dorm living was not “in the stars” for Barron at this point, adding: “She will do everything she can to make sure Barron does well in school and is socially and mentally adjusted to his life as a college student.”
During a recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Donald Trump commented that Melania loves their son more than him. He said that after seeing footage of suffering children, she was moved to write to Russian President Vladimir Putin urging an end to the war in Ukraine. “She’s got a great love of children, she has a wonderful son that she loves probably more than anybody, including me, I hate to say it,” Trump stated in the Oval Office.
Melania Trump has been notably absent from the White House during Donald Trump’s second term, instead dividing her time between New York City, New Jersey, and Washington. She is working on a documentary set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video later this year. A source told People: “She will never be a traditional first lady. That isn't who she is,” while noting she remains supportive of her husband and has “her own ideas on what she wants to do.”
