Married At First Sight star Liam Cooper has publicly shared a harrowing experience from his recent holiday in Thailand, an ordeal that left him genuinely fearing for his life. The 34-year-old reality television veteran recounted how a man brandishing what appeared to be a knife or a large needle followed him and his fiancé, Samuel Levi, during a casual walk down a street earlier this week.
A Terrifying Confrontation Unfolds
Liam detailed the shocking incident in a candid post on his Instagram page, serving as a stark warning to other travellers. "Just a reminder to anyone travelling. You always hear horror stories of things happening in Thailand; people going missing, being drugged and worse. You kind of brush them off," he began. "You never think it will happen to you. Until it almost does."
He explained that the situation escalated rapidly when a man began following them uncomfortably close, seemingly holding a weapon. "Yesterday we were followed by a man who got uncomfortably close to us and appeared to be holding either a large needle or knife," Liam wrote. "We crossed the road to avoid him multiple times, without trying to make it too obvious... but he kept following us."
A Desperate Escape to Safety
The pursuit intensified, forcing the couple to run for their lives. "It ended up escalating quickly to the point where we had to run to the nearest hotel and get security involved. He followed us to the entrance," Liam revealed. He concluded his post with a crucial safety message, urging others to remain vigilant while abroad.
"Please be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. The moment something feels off, it probably is," he advised. "Stay alert. It can happen when you least expect it."
Background: A Rekindled Romance and Engagement
This frightening episode comes shortly after Liam and Samuel announced their engagement, a development that surprised some fans given their previous split. In August, Liam proposed to Samuel during a heartfelt moment at the Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa in Victoria's Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region.
He shared the joyful news on Instagram, writing, "20•08•25—a day I'll never forget. I asked my best friend, my soulmate, my forever, to marry me @_samuellevi." Liam expressed gratitude to the venue for helping orchestrate the special surprise.
Overcoming Past Relationship Challenges
The engagement marks a significant milestone for the couple, who had publicly announced their separation in April 2023 after eighteen months together. At the time, Liam posted, "As much as it has been for ourselves, and a sad day [sic], myself and Samuel would like to just let you all know we will be taking a break on our relationship."
Despite the split, they remained committed friends and continued living together. Their romance was rekindled last year, with Samuel confirming to Daily Mail that they spent his birthday weekend together in April, simply stating they "sure did."
Liam first rose to fame on Married At First Sight in 2021 when paired with bride Georgia Fairweather. His bisexuality introduced complexities into their relationship, as Georgia expressed concerns about his ability to fully commit to one woman.
This recent terrifying incident in Thailand underscores the unpredictable dangers that can arise even during leisurely holidays, highlighting the importance of constant awareness and safety precautions for travellers worldwide.
