Ellen DeGeneres Sued Over California Car Crash

Ellen DeGeneres is facing a negligence lawsuit after a car crash in California in October 2023. The plaintiff alleges that the former talk show host ignored a stop sign and struck her vehicle in Santa Barbara County.

According to the lawsuit, the intersection where the incident occurred is controlled by stop signs in all directions. The plaintiff claims she stopped, checked for other vehicles, and drove forward before DeGeneres allegedly drove into her without warning.

The court documents accuse DeGeneres of entering the intersection without stopping, describing her conduct as negligent and below the standard of care expected of a reasonable person. The plaintiff says she suffered serious injuries, including wage loss and medical expenses, as well as emotional distress and anxiety.

DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved to the UK shortly after the 2020 US election, citing political reasons. They are now selling their 43-acre Cotswolds estate, Kitesbridge Farm, which they bought in spring 2024 for $20 million.

The couple has not yet sold the property, which features modern design and horse facilities. DeGeneres has not commented on the lawsuit at this time.
