Countryfile viewers took to social media within minutes of Sunday's episode to voice their frustration over a repeat broadcast. The instalment featured Anita Rani exploring Orford Ness in Suffolk, a former top-secret military testing facility now a protected coastal landscape with a 10-mile shingle spit and seabird nesting sites.
Anita uncovered the area's secretive past, visiting abandoned military buildings and meeting an artist inspired to write an album about the site's transformation from weapons testing to a nature haven. She also looked back through Countryfile archives at communities exposed to the sea and nature's comeback.
Viewers protest repeat episode
However, many BBC viewers were unimpressed that the episode originally aired in 2016. On X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote: "Today's Countryfile was mostly Coastfile and old clips." Another added: "More old s**t." A third remarked: "At least the weather forecast should be new," while a fourth said: "Come on BBC, it's time for some new episodes now."
