New details have emerged about the tragic events surrounding the deaths of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, revealing that talk show host Conan O'Brien hosted a holiday party attended by the couple and their son just hours before the alleged murder.
The Fateful Holiday Party
The star-studded holiday bash was held at Conan O'Brien's Los Angeles mansion on December 13. Among the guests were legendary filmmaker Rob Reiner, 78, his wife Michele, 70, and their 32-year-old son, Nick. According to multiple sources, Nick Reiner was behaving erratically throughout the evening, which culminated in a heated and loud argument with his father.
The altercation grew so intense that at least one party guest suggested calling the police to intervene. "They got in an argument, the father and son. It got so bad and loud someone wanted to call the police to report it," an insider told the Daily Mail. However, Conan O'Brien reportedly stepped in to prevent the call. "But Conan stepped in and said, 'It's my house, my party, I'm not calling the police.' He talked them out of calling the police," the source claimed.
Haunting Revelations and a Night Out
In a chilling postscript to the argument, Rob Reiner allegedly confided in friends at the party about his fear of his son. "I'm petrified of him. I can't believe I'm going to say this but I'm afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me," Reiner is reported to have said. These comments were later discussed at an impromptu memorial, leaving several Hollywood A-listers in tears.
Less than 24 hours after the party, Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead from knife wounds inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles home. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been accused of the murders.
Days after the tragedy, Conan O'Brien was seen in public for the first time, attending the SiriusXM Presents Before The Buzz event at Max & Helen's on Saturday. He appeared to be in good spirits, posing for photographs with fellow comedians including Tig Notaro, Stephanie Allynne, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Alex Edelman. O'Brien wore a brown jacket over a blue hoodie and jeans, accessorised with brown-tinted sunglasses.
Aftermath and Unanswered Questions
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed there were no 911 calls from O'Brien's residence on the night of the party. A source close to the investigation reiterated that "only the murderer is responsible" for the horrific outcome, but acknowledged the difficult position O'Brien now faces. "But it must be gut-wrenching for Conan to learn that this is how things turned out. I'm sure that night is replaying for him over and over," the source said.
Representatives for Conan O'Brien did not respond to requests for comment on the reports from the party. A spokesman for another attendee denied that Rob Reiner had made the fearful comments about his son at the gathering.
