Police remain in a Cheetham Hill neighbourhood today (Tuesday, July 28) following a stabbing incident. Officers have been on Spender Avenue since around 6pm on Monday (July 27).
An eyewitness told the M.E.N that a cordon was also placed at nearby Thackeray Close. An air ambulance landed on Bignor Street Park as part of the emergency response.
Police confirmed that a man was taken to hospital and treated for stab wounds.
Neighbourhood Reaction
As officers continue their enquiries, local residents shared their experiences with the Manchester Evening News. One neighbour, who chose to remain anonymous, said: "We didn't see what happened, but heard the police come. We saw later that someone has been badly hurt. But it's common around here."
A woman who also asked not to be named said the incident has left the neighbourhood 'shaken up'. She stated: "It's quite disturbing. We need more security around here, I think. Everybody is a bit shaken up right now. I've noticed that not many people are coming out of their houses. The cars that are usually gone are still parked up."
Another local commented: "This is why I have a camera on my doorbell. It's not the best neighbourhood to live in, but it is what it is."
Police Statement
Detective Superintendent Sarah Harris of Greater Manchester Police said: "We are dealing with a serious incident on Spender Avenue in Cheetham Hill this evening that has resulted in a man being treated in hospital for stab wounds.
"We want to reassure the community we don't believe there to be any wider threat as we work to understand the facts.
"We would like to thank residents for their patience and for helping with our enquiries – we will provide further updates when we have them."
