Comedian Reginald 'Reggie' Carroll has died at the age of 52 after being shot in a street attack in Southaven, Mississippi, according to local police. Officers found Carroll critically wounded on Burton Lane on 20 August, and he later died from his injuries at a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Southaven police have arrested a suspect, identified as Tranell Marquise Williams, 38, who has been charged with murder. Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive but described the incident as 'isolated'.
Carroll, a Baltimore-born comedian, was known for his performances in comedy clubs across the US and had recently toured with fellow comedian Katt Williams. A company based at the Burton Lane address, which sold merchandise for Katt Williams, was evicted following the shooting, with a letter citing 'criminal activity' including the shooting and an arrest.
Tributes have poured in from the comedy community, including from Oscar-winning actress Mo'Nique, who described Carroll as a 'brother' and recalled their time on tour together. Baltimore's Mobtown Comedy expressed sadness at the loss of 'one of our city's great talents'.
Carroll's credits include an episode of the sitcom The Parkers, Showtime at the Apollo, the 2023 special Knockout Kings of Comedy, and the 2022 TV movie Rent & Go. Southaven police offered condolences to his family and thanked the public for their patience as the investigation continues.
