Actress Anna Friel has bravely revealed the profound and lasting impact of a three-year stalking campaign that left her in a state of perpetual fear, constantly "looking over her shoulder." The 'Marcella' star's ordeal finally concluded this week as her tormentor, Luke Rawlins, was sentenced to a jail term.
A Relentless Campaign of Fear
The court heard how Rawlins, 36, waged a systematic campaign of harassment against the Bafta-nominated actor from late 2021 until his arrest in late 2024. His fixation began with incessant letters and emails before escalating into more sinister behaviour.
Friel gave a powerful victim impact statement, describing the immense psychological toll. "I felt like a prisoner in my own home," she shared. "The constant anxiety and fear were debilitating. I was always on edge, wondering if he would be there."
The Escalation and Legal Action
Rawlins's actions grew increasingly bold. He was known to:
- Send hundreds of unwanted letters and emails.
- Turn up uninvited at her home and place of work.
- Attempt to make physical contact on multiple occasions.
Despite obtaining a restraining order against him, Rawlins repeatedly breached it, demonstrating a complete disregard for the law and Friel's safety. His actions culminated in a final, direct confrontation that led to his arrest.

At Highbury Corner magistrates court, Rawlins was sentenced to a significant period of imprisonment. The judge emphasised the severe and lasting trauma caused by such persistent stalking.
