The first day of the inaugural When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas has been cancelled due to a high wind warning issued by the National Weather Service. The festival, which features a lineup of emo and rock bands from the past two decades, was set to kick off on Saturday October 22 with headliners My Chemical Romance and Paramore.
In a statement, organisers said the decision was made under advisement from the National Weather Service and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. 'The safety of our fans, artists and staff will always be our top priority,' they said, adding that dangerous winds of 30-40mph sustained with potential 60mph gusts were forecast.
Ticket holders for the cancelled Saturday date will receive refunds within 30 days. The festival's additional dates on Sunday October 23 and Saturday October 29 are still scheduled to proceed, with Sunday's weather forecast showing sunny conditions without wind advisories.
The 2022 festival had been highly anticipated, with a lineup also including Bring Me The Horizon, Bright Eyes and The Used. Organisers expressed devastation at the cancellation, acknowledging that many fans had travelled to attend. The 2023 edition has already been announced, with Blink-182 and Green Day set to headline.
