Radio Star Vick Hope's Anxious Return to Airwaves After Maternity Leave
BBC Radio 1 presenter Vick Hope has openly shared her nervousness about returning to work after a six-month maternity leave, admitting she felt physically sick with anxiety ahead of her comeback broadcast. The 36-year-old television and radio personality welcomed her first child, son Micah, with world-renowned DJ Calvin Harris last July, marking a significant life change before her professional return.
Emotional Comeback to The Going Home Show
Hope resumed her regular slot on the popular Going Home Show this Monday, joining co-hosts Jamie Laing and Katie Thistleton, who have both recently become parents themselves. The atmosphere was charged with both excitement and exhaustion as the trio reunited on air for the first time since their respective parental leaves.
"We've all had babies, nobody has slept, so let's see how this goes!" declared co-host Katie Thistleton as the show began. "We're all back together - it feels weird!"
A visibly nervous Vick Hope then confessed: "I can't remember what I'm allowed to say on the radio anymore! I feel like our babies should all be in a band together one day. I feel so spaced out, I feel like I might vom, I have quivering lips."
Social Media Reflections on Working Motherhood
Ahead of the broadcast, Hope took to her Instagram Story to share her emotional state with followers, posting alongside a photograph of her infant son in a pram. "Anyone else go back to work feeling like you are split into two completely different people?" she questioned poignantly.
She continued with characteristic honesty: "Going gently where possible, so nervous to be back on live radio I feel like I'm going to throw up. With you from 3.30pm, possible vom."
Family Milestones and Celebrations
Vick Hope and Calvin Harris, who married in 2023, announced the arrival of their son Micah in August through a heartfelt social media post, following his birth on July 20th. The couple chose a home water birth at their Ibiza property, where Hope had flown after beginning her maternity leave.
Harris shared intimate photographs documenting the birth experience, including a tender image of his wife in the birthing pool and another capturing his first moments with their newborn. Alongside the series, he wrote emotionally: "20th of July, our boy arrived. Micah is here! My wife is a superhero and I am in complete awe of her primal wisdom! Just so grateful. We love you so much Micah."
The DJ also included a graphic photograph of Hope's placenta, which was subsequently processed into nutritional capsules through drying and encapsulation - a practice some new parents choose for potential health benefits.
Calvin Harris's Evolving Career Path
Meanwhile, Calvin Harris - born Adam Wiles and formerly a supermarket shelf stacker before becoming one of the world's highest-earning DJs - has been expanding his professional horizons beyond music. In 2020, he reportedly sold the rights to his extensive back catalogue to an investment firm for approximately £76 million.
In a recent interview, Harris revealed his plans to gradually step away from DJing within the next decade. "I always said that once I get past 50, I can't see me DJing," he explained. "The more commercial end [of DJing], it gets a little bit suspect. I think I'd prefer to be in the studio making tunes."
This transition appears to be already underway, with Harris recently taking on an executive role at fast-growing wellness brand Healf as their Chief Wellness Officer. The healthcare company, founded in 2020 by Manchester-born brothers Max Clarke and Lestat McCree, has grown to serve over 550,000 regular customers with annual revenues exceeding £100 million.
"As an artist I find inspiration in different things: people, places, feelings, words," Harris commented about his new position. "Music is about pushing limits, doing things I haven't done before - I have to take care of my mind and body to do that. I've learned that what keeps me feeling good changes all the time."
He added: "Healf gets that. They're not trying to tell you how to live; they're helping you find what works for you. That's why stepping in as Chief Wellbeing Officer made sense."
Balancing Family Life in the Public Eye
Back in January, Hope shared rare family photographs on Instagram, documenting their first Christmas as a family of three. The carousel of images included matching pyjamas with baby Micah, tender moments between father and son at the dinner table, and sweet snapshots with grandmother Adeline Nowosu.
"'Twas the season," Hope captioned the festive post, showing the new mother apparently navigating the challenges of parenthood while maintaining her professional and social connections.
This week, while Hope settled back into her radio routine, Harris was performing DJ sets in Brazil, sharing photographs of himself in a yellow and green Brazil shirt alongside images of the enormous crowds attending his performances.
The couple's journey through new parenthood and career transitions continues to unfold publicly, with Hope's raw honesty about the emotional complexities of returning to work resonating with many working parents across the country.
