Travis Kelce has finally spoken publicly about his engagement to Taylor Swift, sharing a heartfelt four-word comment that has delighted fans. The couple shocked the world last month when they revealed they had secretly got engaged, two weeks before announcing the news on Instagram.
According to reports, the Kansas City Chiefs star proposed in the back garden of his Lee's Summit home in Missouri, after taking Taylor out for dinner. He had created a stunning floral display around a gazebo, where he dropped to one knee and asked the singer to marry him.
In a teaser clip for this week's New Heights podcast, Travis opened up to his brother Jason about the moment. Jason told listeners: 'In case you missed the Instagram post all around the world, Travis and Taylor are engaged! Yay!' Travis replied: 'I appreciate everybody that reached out and sent something, and all the posts, all the excitement that's been going on. It's been really fun telling everybody who I'm going to be spending the rest of my life with.'
Swifties were quick to react, with one fan gushing: 'I love that he’s planning a marriage and not just a wedding.' Another added: 'Notice how Taylor and Travis both focus on the marriage and the commitment as opposed to the engagement and the wedding.' A third said: 'I just fell to my knees, I love them together so much.'
The couple's joint Instagram announcement read: 'Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,' alongside a dynamite emoji. Taylor later reshared the post on her Story with a heart emoji and her track So High School playing in the background. It is understood Travis helped design Taylor's ring, an Old Mine Brilliant Cut by designer Kindred Lubeck.
Travis's father Ed revealed the effort that went into the proposal, telling the Jimmy & Nath Show that his son had a team working behind the scenes, with some hiding in the bushes to avoid being spotted. Ed recalled: 'I think she knew something was up because as they walked out there, she could suddenly see there’s a lot more flowers out there.' He added that he first saw the ring in July, but Travis had 'a lot going on' before finally popping the question. The full New Heights podcast episode is expected to drop later today.
