George Michael's Estate Approves Taylor Swift's Interpolation of 'Father Figure'

The estate of George Michael has expressed its delight at Taylor Swift's interpolation of the late singer's 1987 hit 'Father Figure' on her upcoming album, 'The Life Of A Showgirl'. In a statement released on social media, the estate confirmed that Swift's team had approached them earlier this year about incorporating elements of the classic track into a new song of the same name.

“When we heard the track we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists and we know George would have felt the same,” the estate wrote, wishing Swift “every success with The Life of a Showgirl and ‘Father Figure.’” The interpolation is not a cover but a homage, weaving bits of Michael's original into Swift's own composition.

Kenny Goss, Michael's former partner of 13 years, also commented, telling TMZ that while the 'Faith' singer never met Swift, he believed Michael would have loved her artistry and appreciated the interpolation. The only other confirmed feature on the album is Sabrina Carpenter on the title track, with production by Max Martin, Shellback, and Swift herself.

Swift has insisted there are “no other songs coming” beyond the standard edition tracklist and has teased fans with promises of “more images than we ever planned” in the album's artwork. She is set to appear on The Graham Norton Show later today to celebrate the album's release.
