Plans for a lucrative Spice Girls drama series have stalled after Geri Horner withdrew from the project, according to insiders. The proposed show, developed by the team behind Netflix’s The Crown, would have seen five actresses portraying the iconic pop group members.
Each of the five Spice Girls – Geri, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel C, and Mel B – was reportedly offered £1 million for their involvement. However, sources claim Geri objected as negotiations intensified, throwing the project into doubt.
A source told The Sun: “It would have seen five actresses taking on the roles of Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby. The venture would have landed them all pay deals of around £1million for essentially not lifting a finger.” Without Geri’s agreement, the project is unlikely to proceed.
Christian Horner, Geri’s husband, denied he was to blame for derailing the venture. He also dismissed rumours of a separate, personal fly-on-the-wall TV series, telling the PA news agency: “There are absolutely no plans to do a family documentary.”
The setback adds to fan disappointment, as Geri was also said to have pulled out of a planned reunion tour amid an ongoing feud with Mel B. Even Victoria Beckham, who has largely distanced herself from the group, was reportedly open to a cameo.
