An 11-year-old boy is fighting for life in hospital after being shot in the face and neck at an address in Sydney, Australia. The shooting occurred at around 5pm on Monday, September 21, and the boy remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Australian police and paramedics were called to a property on Fairway Drive, Norwest in New South Wales late on Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers found that the boy had been shot in the face and neck.
Five others uninjured at the scene
He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Police report that five other people who were in the home at the time of the shooting are uninjured.
A 43-year-old woman, believed to be the child's mother, was present during the incident. Isaac Bechara, 18, has been charged with concealing a serious indictable offence, while two other men, both aged 18, have been released from custody after being questioned by police.
Police seek witnesses and weapon
Superintendent Naomi Moore told the media that some of the people in the property are not cooperating and police are looking to find them. "A number of people did leave before the police arrived, and we are hoping to speak to them shortly," she said.
The occupants of the property are known to police, and the force is investigating whether the incident has links to organised crime. Officers are also yet to locate a weapon.
Moore added that police have not been able to speak to the 11-year-old yet due to his condition. She said: "Police have engaged with the occupants of the property previously." Investigations into the incident are continuing.
