Rock star Joey Stuckey dies suddenly after heart attack

Musician and producer Joey Stuckey has died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 53. Confirming the news on Instagram, Shadow Sound Studio - which Stuckey founded - announced that the rock star had died "suddenly" on October 17 while on tour in Madison, Wisconsin.

A 30-Year Career Transcending Genre

"An inspirational, award-winning artist whose career transcended sight, sound, and genre, Stuckey, blind since age two, blazed a trail for 30 years, sharing stages with James Brown, the B-52s, and Bad Company, and founding @shadowsoundstudio, which celebrated its 30th Anniversary in September," the tribute noted.

"Over three decades, he produced countless artists and legends like Chuck Leavell, Ed Roland, Mike Mills, Paul "Mad Dog" McGuinness, Chris Hicks, and Alan Parsons, who dubbed him 'the best ears in the business'."

Final Recordings and Releases

As a songwriter and composer, Stuckey released a half-dozen highly acclaimed albums, with his upcoming seventh described as one of his best. In June of this year, he became the first artist to record at the Les Paul Recording Studio in Hollywood, California.

The resulting 6-song "King of Strings" EP, featuring lead single "Temple in the Wind," is set to be released October 23, 2026 via his Senate Records imprint.

Family Statement and Funeral Arrangements

Stuckey's wife, Jennifer, has also released a statement, which Shadow Sound Studio shared on her behalf. "Joey was my person and the best man I've ever known," she began. "He is still here in my heart and the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He would want us to smile, tell a bad joke, and laugh."

"I am grateful for the love and support that the family has received, and his music, his smile and his intentionally joyful life will continue to inspire me every day."

According to Shadow Sound Studio, a funeral for the star will be held on Tuesday, 27 October. "In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Music Cares," the company concluded.

Tributes Pour In

Following the news of Stuckey's passing, tributes have poured in for the artist and producer on social media. "I was lucky enough to spend time with Joey at a Nashville music convention. What a great man with a great spirit - you shall be missed, Joey," wrote one fan.

"Joey was a one in a million… I got my start in the recording studio with Joey Stuckey… almost 20 years ago… He was a very humble person," noted a second. "Sending my prayers," commented songwriter and rapper Derrick Milano.

Meanwhile, a fourth declared, "Love to everyone in the family and to everyone in the community - locally and around the world - because everyone who knew him enjoyed every second they spent with him! We love you, Joey."
