Penny Lancaster, known for her role on Loose Women, has revealed she was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 46. The former model admitted she had long suspected she had the learning difficulty but kept it secret until recently undergoing testing.
Speaking about her diagnosis, Lancaster credited her husband, Rod Stewart, for giving her the confidence to address the condition. 'Rod has never made me feel in any way like I can’t do things,' she said. She recalled a charity event where she was asked to read a pledge and was in a panic, but Stewart encouraged her. 'I could hear him cheering for me and I read out the words. I didn’t get them all right but I read them and I felt like bursting into tears afterwards because it was such a big deal for me.'
Lancaster said she was aware of her condition from a young age. Her father took her to extra English classes after a teacher told him, 'Why bother, she’ll never amount to anything.' She previously admitted that at school she had borderline dyslexia and was 'terrified of reading aloud.'
The couple recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows. Lancaster noted she is now Stewart's longest marriage and the oldest woman he has been with. Stewart, she said, loves picking their sons, Alastair, 12, and Aiden, six, up from school in his Ferrari but is strict with them, padlocking their Xbox room when they misbehave.
