The funeral of Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne will take place on Wednesday, July 30, with a public procession through Birmingham's Broad Street ahead of a private family service. The procession, scheduled for 1pm, will be led by a brass band and pass the Black Sabbath bridge and bench where floral tributes have been left.
Birmingham City Council has closed Broad Street to traffic from 7am on the day, with buses and trams diverted. The Osbourne family is covering all costs of the procession and road closures, according to the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE, JP.
Fans unable to attend in person can view a live feed of the Black Sabbath bridge, where the cortege will pause. A book of condolence has been opened at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, alongside the Ozzy Osbourne Working Class Hero exhibition.
Ozzy died last week at his home in England, having returned to the UK from Los Angeles. In a statement, his family said: 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.'
The rock star had expressed a desire to be buried in Birmingham, saying earlier this year: 'I don't want to die in a hotel room somewhere. I want to spend the rest of my life with my family.' His final performance with Black Sabbath took place at Villa Park earlier this month.
