Olivia Rodrigo: Breakups Are an 'Awesome Opportunity'

Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about how she navigates heartbreak, calling breakups an 'awesome opportunity' for self-discovery. The 23-year-old singer, who split from Louis Partridge at the end of 2025 after a two-year relationship, shared her advice in an interview with Dazed magazine.

Rodrigo emphasised the importance of leaning on friends during tough times. 'I don’t know what I would have done when going through hard times if I didn’t have great friends,' she said, adding that she is not a relationship expert but finds solace in her support network.

The 'Vampire' hitmaker also views breakups as a chance to realign one's life. 'Going through a breakup can be a really awesome opportunity to redirect your life in a way that feels more aligned with who you are,' she explained. 'You never learn more about yourself through any other experience.'

Rodrigo noted that heartbreak becomes easier with age, reflecting on her teenage years. 'Heartbreak will never be as bad as it was when you were 17 years old,' she said, adding that she now takes rejection less personally. 'As you grow and have more experiences, it starts to feel OK.'

When asked about her ideal first date, Rodrigo described a simple evening: dinner, a comedy show, and ice cream. 'I love watching improv and stand-up,' she said, praising the skill of comedians.
