A coroner has raised safety concerns over barriers at Wembley Stadium following the death of an Oasis fan who fell from height during a concert. Lee Claydon, 45, a landscape gardener from Bournemouth, Dorset, died after the incident on August 2 last year.
Senior coroner Andrew Walker ordered a report into the safety of barriers on level five of the stadium, where Mr Claydon fell. The report will review the design, height and placement of the barriers, as well as a risk assessment and any modifications made since installation.
The coroner acted after receiving a letter from a former Wembley employee who worked at the stadium around 20 years ago, raising concerns over safety measures. Mr Walker said: 'My concern is that this area is safe and that steps are taken as soon as possible to make this area safe.'
The Metropolitan Police completed their investigation in November last year, ruling out suicide or third-party involvement, describing the death as a 'tragic accident'. A post-mortem gave the preliminary cause of death as 'multiple bodily injuries'.
The inquest was adjourned until a pre-inquest review hearing on April 29. Oasis had previously expressed shock and sadness, offering condolences to the family.
