Noel Gallagher has publicly addressed swirling rumours that Britpop icons Oasis are set to record the theme song for the next James Bond film, firmly stating that the band has received no such offer from the 007 production team.
Gallagher Pours Cold Water on Speculation
During an appearance on TalkSport radio on Monday, the legendary guitarist and songwriter was direct when asked about the speculation. "This James Bond thing? What, Oasis? Nah," he stated, effectively dismissing the reports. The rumours had gained traction after it was announced in August that acclaimed British screenwriter Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, would pen the script for the upcoming Bond instalment.
Further fuel was added by claims that Amazon MGM, the studio behind the franchise, had lined up the iconic Manchester band to provide the soundtrack's vocal prowess. However, Gallagher confirmed there has been no contact whatsoever between Oasis and the Bond team.
A Future Honour and a Mancunian Villain
Despite shutting down the current rumours, Gallagher left the door wide open for future collaboration. He added that Oasis would certainly be interested if approached. "Of course. It would be an absolute honour, and I think those kind of things should be done by Brits not Yanks," he remarked, echoing a sentiment he first expressed back in 2008.
At that time, he lamented that the theme for Quantum of Solace, 'Another Way To Die' by Alicia Keys and Jack White, was performed by Americans. He even suggested that an unreleased song of his, 'Freaky Teeth', would make a great Bond theme. In his latest interview, Gallagher also joked that he would be up for playing a "Mancunian villain" in the next film.
The New Bond Era Takes Shape
The news comes as the James Bond franchise continues its reboot under the guidance of screenwriter Steven Knight. Speaking about the project, Knight said he finds writing the script "exciting and thrilling" and described the job as a bucket-list item. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are attached to the project, with Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer.
Knight has remained tight-lipped on who might succeed Daniel Craig as the new 007, with names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Paul Mescal frequently mentioned. The last film, No Time To Die, was released in 2021. For now, fans hoping for a Gallagher brothers reunion on the Bond theme will have to wait, as Noel's comments make it clear that, for the moment, it's all just talk.
