Natanya: The London Artist Defying Musical Genres with a Buttery Falsetto

Natanya, a London-based musician, is carving out a unique space in the music industry by blending neo-soul, R&B, indie, and grunge. Writing, producing, and arranging all her own work, she creates a sound that defies easy classification. Her music features loose, jazzy drums over heavy 808s, dreamy synths that shift into gritty guitar riffs, all topped with a buttery falsetto reminiscent of Aaliyah, Amy Winehouse, Janet Jackson, and early Destiny's Child.

Born in north-west London to a Nigerian father raised on Motown and gospel and a Trinidadian-Indian mother who played calypso and funk, Natanya began learning classical piano at age four. She grew up absorbing influences from church bands, YouTube rabbit holes, wrestling entrance themes, and late-night bedroom beats made on whatever gear she could find. Her eclectic background is reflected in her genre-bending style.

Her 2023 debut EP, 'Sorrow at Sunrise,' was a raw collection of diary-like entries about heartbreak and university life, set against lush, experimental production. In 2025, she released 'Feline's Return' and its 'Act II' extension, which combined bolder pop instincts with soulful depth. These projects have earned her cosigns from major artists including SZA, Tyler, the Creator, Doechii, and Janet Jackson, signaling her rising influence.

With a short break planned to reset for the rest of 2026, Natanya continues to captivate her growing fanbase, known as the felines. Her journey showcases a fearless approach to music-making, tearing apart genres and rebuilding them in her own image. New music is expected later this year.
