A butcher has shared a bacon cooking hack that requires no washing up and is ready in under three minutes. Scottish butcher Simon Bowie has revealed his bacon-preparation technique, offering a faster, more practical way to cook the meat than on the hob or under the grill.
Why the microwave works for bacon
Bacon is a breakfast staple in numerous homes, whether it's accompanying a full English or loaded into a butty. Yet cooking it to perfection can often be hard, with fat spitting across the cooker and pans needing washing up later.
While bacon can also be prepared in the air fryer, it can be difficult to determine when it's done and to monitor it. The recipe notes said: "While giving your bacon a blast in the microwave might not be the first cooking method that pops into your head, it's a great life hack for those mornings when you simply don't have time to get the frying pan out."
This recipe caters for one individual, but can readily be doubled or tripled depending on how many rashers of bacon you require. It also takes under five minutes to prepare and under two minutes to cook, considerably faster than in a frying pan.
Step-by-step microwave bacon recipe
All you'll require for this recipe is three rashers of bacon per person. Start by placing a sheet of kitchen roll on top of a microwaveable plate. This will help absorb any excess liquid.
Arrange the required number of rashers, ensuring they're spaced slightly apart. Place another piece of kitchen roll on top to shield the interior of your microwave from any splatter.
Cook on full power for two minutes, or approximately 30 seconds per rasher at 900W. The recipe said: "This is completely personal preference, so we recommend a bit of trial and error. This will cook the bacon through but leave it pale and not yet crispy. Fire them in for another 30 to 40 seconds to crisp up the edges."
Serve and enjoy without the mess
Take it out of the microwave and serve it in a roll with your preferred sauce. The recipe notes added: "Personal preferences for the crispiness of your bacon will determine cooking time, but these simple steps will have a bacon buttie in your hand in a game-changing matter of minutes."
The butcher's notes added: "There you have it. Bacon in a hurry, and no greasy pans to wash up. It's a win-win."
