The 2026 Mercury Prize will be awarded at the end of a star-studded ceremony at Newcastle's Utilita Arena on Thursday night, with Olivia Dean still leading the betting but facing a late surge from rivals.
Dean, nominated for her album The Art of Loving, has been the favourite since the shortlist was announced. However, with just 48 hours to go, bookmaker William Hill reports that Nia Archives is now her closest challenger, narrowing the gap in the odds.
Odds Narrow as Ceremony Approaches
William Hill currently prices Olivia Dean at 3/1, with Nia Archives at 4/1 and RAYE at 9/2. Dave is also in contention at 7/1, while Newcastle jazz trio Knats are in the top five of the betting at 9/1.
The shortlist also includes JADE, the former Little Mix star turned solo artist, along with Suede, Florence & the Machine, and Sir Paul McCartney.
Bookmaker Warns of Late Twist
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: "While Olivia Dean is our 3/1 favourite to land the Mercury Prize on Thursday night, the rest of the market suggests it is far from a done deal. Nia Archives (4/1) and RAYE (9/2) are firmly in the mix to win best album of 2026, and we wouldn't be shocked by a late twist in Newcastle as they continue to breathe down Dean's neck."
The event returns to Newcastle for a second consecutive year following last year's ceremony at the Utilita Arena. The red carpet will be rolled out at the venue as musicians, industry executives, and fans gather for a night of live music.
