Musician missing after eight months
Linda Perhacs, the 82-year-old pioneer of psychedelic folk, has been declared missing after disappearing from a residential care facility in the United States. The singer-songwriter, known for her 1970s work and albums The Soul of All Natural Things and Parallelograms, has not been seen or heard from in eight months.
According to friends, Perhacs was discharged from the facility “under the supervision of her legal guardian”. Her former manager Laurel Sterns, along with friends and fellow musicians Julia Holter, Mark McNeill and Jessica Hundley, issued a plea on social media for any information about her whereabouts.
Statement issued by friends
The statement read: “Linda Perhacs fans, we need your help. Linda has gone missing. Legendary singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs was discharged from a residential care facility approximately eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian. Since then, friends and longtime collaborators have been unable to reach her and repeated attempts to contact her guardian have reportedly gone unanswered. If you have verified information regarding Linda’s wellbeing or current means of contact, please reach out.”
McNeill confirmed that a police report has been filed, and the group has hired an elder abuse attorney to petition the state. Perhacs had reportedly been living at the care home for several years after being diagnosed with dementia.
Concern for safety
Hundley told Rolling Stone: “The intention is not to intrude upon her privacy, but simply to ensure that she is safe and to re-establish communication with someone whose artistic contributions continue to resonate across generations.”
