Liam Gallagher has hit out at Fontaines D.C., one of the bands widely tipped to headline Glastonbury 2027, saying they are “not good enough” and “don’t have any tunes.”
The Oasis frontman was asked why the Dublin five-piece were not opening for the reunited Britpop legends on their upcoming tour, and his response was blunt.
Fontaines D.C. are expected to secure another number one album next Friday with their latest release, Dopamine Chamber.
Band’s previous dismissal of Oasis reunion
The band are unlikely to be too upset by Gallagher’s comments, having previously dismissed the Oasis reunion. Guitarist Carlos O’Connell said he “couldn’t really give a s**t” about it when it was announced in 2024, while bassist Conor Deegan III said: “I’m not excited about it either, to be honest. I feel like we get caught in the last era – like the ’10s – and into such a nostalgic thing that we’re forgetting to make new things.”
Deegan added: “I feel like what we were wanting to do with this record anyway was to look into the future and make new things… So for Oasis to reform at this moment for us is really annoying.”
Glastonbury 2027 headliner speculation
Fontaines D.C. could have a busy 2027 regardless, as their own stadium tour next summer has a gap on both the Friday and Sunday night of Glastonbury, fuelling speculation they will be among the three Pyramid Stage headliners announced in the coming months.
Co-organiser Emily Eavis has confirmed the headliners have been booked but refused to give official confirmation. She did rule out Oasis and Madonna, the latter having been tipped to make her Glastonbury debut following the release of her album Confessions II.
Geordie singer Sam Fender is reportedly among the acts set to headline the Pyramid Stage. A source told The Mail on Sunday: “Sam is over the moon, it’s a major milestone in his career and he’s so excited he’s even been telling his neighbours.”
Tickets sold out in record time
Glastonbury tickets sold out in just 42 minutes earlier this month, despite no acts having been announced and tickets costing more than £400 for the first time.
Other artists tipped for the three slots include Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, both at 3/1, while Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, Eminem, Fred Again, Little Simz and Miley Cyrus have also been prominent in the speculation.
