JADE Lights Up Mercury Prize in Newcastle with Hit Performance

South Shields pop star JADE delivered a stunning performance of her hit song Angel of My Dreams at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, where the Mercury Prize was hosted for the second consecutive year. The singer, nominated for the coveted best album award, performed in front of a home crowd and received a rapturous response.

A Homecoming Performance

Ahead of her set, JADE spoke to Chronicle What's On editor Simon Duke and video producer Dan Allinson on the red carpet. Asked about the support from the North East and the excitement around homegrown acts including local jazz fusion band Knats, she said: "It feels really special to be back up North. I love Knats as well, we're having a joint after party to show everyone how to have a good night out in Newcastle."

She added: "I get really nervous when performing but I actually feel really nice knowing that all my family and friends are here tonight and hopefully I'll get a good reaction from the crowd whatever happens. That always makes me feel a bit better!"

A Whirlwind Week

The performance came after a momentous week for the singer, with Angel of My Dreams used during this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show as Kylie Jenner was revealed as the 'mystery' model. Commenting on the surge in popularity, with streams up 4,000% and a new US audience discovering the song, JADE said: "It's been mental, I can't believe what's going on. I'm just trying to embrace it, it's not every day you wake up to one of the most famous people on the planet walking to your song. Angel of My Dreams deserves another moment so I'm really grateful for that."

Karaoke Choice Revealed

Asked what her karaoke song of choice would be at Cosy Joes if her name was on the board, JADE was quick and unequivocal in her reply: "Left Outside Alone by Anastacia. It ticks every box, it's a tough sing and I don't think anyone that sings karaoke should do anything they can sing comfortably."
