Grammy-Winning British Singer-Songwriter Talay Riley Dies in East London Stabbing

Grammy award-winning British singer-songwriter Talay Riley, real name Mark Orabiyi, has died at the age of 35 following a knife attack in East London. Police were called to a property on Rayleigh Road on Friday, June 5, where they found the hitmaker with multiple stab wounds in the garden. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man in his 20s was also found with stab wounds and taken to hospital, where his condition is described as non-life-threatening. Homicide detectives have launched a murder investigation. Two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested nearby on suspicion of murder. The woman and the 24-year-old man have been released with no further action, while the 27-year-old has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, leading the investigation, said: 'This is a tragic incident and my thoughts remain with Mark’s family and loved ones.' Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

Talay Riley's family confirmed his death in a tribute, describing him as 'a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend' who 'brought love, light, and joy to our family and to all who knew him.' His brother, songwriter Scribz Riley, also paid tribute on Instagram, saying: 'My heart is shattered! This doesn’t feel real.'

Riley co-wrote H.E.R.'s song 'Lights On' for her Grammy-winning 2017 album and worked with artists including Dua Lipa, Usher, Craig David, and Britney Spears. He contributed to global hits such as Khalid's 'Young Dumb & Broke' and The Chainsmokers' 'Who Do You Love.'

Tributes have poured in from the music industry. Craig David, who collaborated with Riley on his 2018 album 'The Time Is Now,' wrote: 'Sending so much love to you & the family. His beautiful energy will continue to be felt.' R&B star Khalid added: 'I'm so sorry bro… im sending you so much love.'
