American rapper GloRilla has been arrested on felony drug charges after police responding to a burglary call at her Atlanta home discovered a 'significant amount of marijuana'. The incident occurred on Saturday, just hours before she was scheduled to perform at the WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office confirmed that authorities were called to the rapper's home around 1.30am on Saturday following a report of a burglary. Three suspects had entered the property while GloRilla was away, but were deterred when an unidentified individual fired shots at them. The burglars escaped unharmed and remain at large.
During their investigation, deputies smelled marijuana and summoned a drug taskforce, which found a large quantity of cannabis in a bedroom closet. GloRilla, whose legal name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. She voluntarily surrendered to authorities on Tuesday and was released on a $22,260 bond.
Sheriff Ron Freeman stated: 'The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice. At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.'
GloRilla, born in Memphis, Tennessee, rose to fame in 2022 with her Grammy-nominated single 'FNF (Let's Go)'. Her debut album 'Glorious' was released in 2024, earning two more Grammy nominations. The Guardian has contacted her representatives for comment.
