Glitterball returns to South Shields for one night only

Glitterball, the beloved South Shields nightclub known for its flashing dancefloor, is set to return for one night only this Christmas. The reunion will take place on Friday, December 18, at Industry, the club that now occupies the top floor of the building at 18–22 Ocean Road, where Glitterball originally operated.

A Nostalgic Return to Ocean Road

Glitterball first opened its doors in 2006, quickly becoming a local favourite and earning a reputation as one of the region's 'best guilty pleasure' spots. The venue closed in 2018, and the premises have since been home to several different ventures, including House of Diamonds, Amari, and Red Door. Currently, Arbeia bar operates downstairs, with Industry club on the top floor.

The announcement of the reunion has generated significant excitement on Facebook over the weekend, with a teaser for the free event reading: "Remember the nights at Glitterball? The music, the dancing, the familiar faces and those unforgettable weekends on Ocean Road?"

Bringing Back the Atmosphere

The event promises to recreate the Glitterball experience, with the post adding: "From disco classics to the biggest floor-fillers of the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s, we're bringing back the atmosphere that made Glitterball such a huge part of South Shields nightlife."

Revellers can expect all the music from the Glitterball days, along with the return of its iconic flashing dancefloor. The teaser concludes: "No new venue. No imitation. Just the original Glitterball, back where it belongs. So dig out your dancing shoes, round up the old gang and get ready to relive some of the best nights South Shields ever had!"
