Girls Don't Sync headline free Manchester party series

Girls Don't Sync will headline a free night at Crazy Pedro's in Manchester's Northern Quarter on November 5, kicking off a cultural series that combines music, art and a city-wide treasure hunt.

The event is free to attend, but partygoers must register in advance to secure a place. The celebrations are organised by Desperados, which has teamed up with Manchester artist Stanley Chow to turn the city into a giant version of Lotería, the traditional Mexican card game.

Six hidden cards across the city

As part of the project, six oversized playing cards featuring Stanley's artwork have been hidden at some of Manchester's most iconic locations. The public is challenged to track them down by following cryptic clues posted on Desperados' Instagram account.

The cards feature six classic Lotería designs: La Sirena (The Mermaid), La Guitara Electrica (The Guitar), El Catrín (The Dandy), La Escalera (The Ladder), La Botella (The Bottle) and La Rosa (The Rose).

Prizes and further events

Anyone who collects all six cards could win prizes, including three all-expenses-paid weekend getaways for two, worth up to £1,000 each, alongside vouchers for meals out. Players send evidence of their completed collection to @desperados_uk via Instagram direct messages.

DJ and record producer Conducta will take over YES on November 19, while the series will also head to Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds. All three events will feature real-life Lotería cards, with prizes available on the night alongside bottles of Desperados. Registration is free.

Stanley Chow said: “I've always had a fascination with Mexican culture, be it the food, art, Day of the Dead even… so when the opportunity arose to produce my version of the Lotería Cards, it was an opportunity that I immediately said yes to. It gives me great pleasure to be able to share my designs with the folk of Manchester and have them dotted around the city.”

Katie Park at Desperados added: “Lotería is a game rooted in Mexican culture. We wanted to bring a little of that Latin spirit to the UK, and turning Manchester into one giant, interactive Lotería game felt like the perfect way to do just that.”
