Freddie Mercury's Alleged Son Slams Bohemian Rhapsody Film: 'It Was Absolute Rubbish' | Exclusive
Freddie Mercury's 'Son' Slams Bohemian Rhapsody Film

The man who claims to be the secret love child of rock icon Freddie Mercury has launched a scathing attack on the multi-award-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, branding it "absolute rubbish" in an exclusive interview.

Richard Curry, who has long asserted he is the son of the Queen frontman and his former girlfriend, Rosemary Pearson, expressed profound disappointment with the 2018 film. He criticised its portrayal of his alleged father's life and legacy, stating it failed to capture the true essence of the flamboyant performer.

'A Caricature, Not a Portrait'

Curry, now in his fifties, took particular issue with Rami Malek's Oscar-winning performance. While Malek received widespread acclaim, Curry contends the portrayal was a shallow imitation.

"He just didn't get him," Curry stated bluntly. "It was a caricature. He copied his moves, but he didn't capture his soul, his kindness, his intelligence. Freddie was so much more than that."

Omissions and Inaccuracies

He further criticised the film's narrative for its significant omissions and creative liberties, suggesting it presented a sanitised and incomplete version of Mercury's complex personal life and relationships.

"The story was all wrong," he claimed. "They left out so much that was important and focused on things that didn't matter. It was a missed opportunity to tell the real story."

A Personal Wound

For Curry, the film's portrayal is not just a matter of artistic critique but a personal affront. His own story, and that of his mother Rosemary, is entirely absent from the biopic.

He believes the film's lack of depth and its avoidance of certain truths ultimately disrespects Mercury's memory, reducing his legendary status to a series of clichés and glossing over the man he believes was his father.

Despite his claims, Curry's paternity has never been legally proven. Freddie Mercury never publicly acknowledged a child, and his estate has not recognised Curry's assertions.
