Fontaines D.C. have teased their upcoming fifth album and given fans a preview of their new single, 'Marianne', via their YouTube page. The Dublin-based band shared the teaser after debuting the track last week during a performance at Baluarte de la Candelaria in Cádiz, Spain, their first full headline slot of the year.

Lead vocalist Grian Chatten sings over the sound of the guitar: "This year, you should come and stay here, you can follow my lead, I can help you disappear, cinematic feeling, understand this is your life, you can go on dreaming, you can go under the knife, Marianne, this could be your fatal match."
Other lyrics include: "Marianne, this year you should come and stay here, you can follow my lead, I can help you disappear." During their Spanish gig, the band also played "Six Shot Morning" in the encore.
Cryptic Social Media Post
Shortly after sharing the preview of 'Marianne' on their YouTube channel, the band posted a new photo of the five-piece on Instagram with the caption: "5." Fontaines' last album, Romance, was released in August 2024, with their cryptic social media post appearing to reference their upcoming record.
The band have made it no secret that they've been working on their upcoming album for some time. Speaking to NME last year, bassist Conor Deegan III told the outlet: "It's one of those things where we can’t stop writing – it's something that we just do when we're with each other."
Festival Plans and Upcoming Shows
Meanwhile, Carlos O'Connell, the band's guitarist, said earlier this year: "We've been writing, it's been fun. We're at Reading & Leeds and there are a couple of shows before that. I think if the music is there, it could get busy."
When asked whether the band will be considering playing any new material at festivals, he commented: "I'd say so. If there is stuff written, then I would say so, yeah. That's what we used to do all the time, play the new stuff, life–songs that weren’t even finished. It's a good way to test the songs."
The group are currently playing several shows across mainland Europe in France, Switzerland and Austria, before heading to England, where they will headline Reading and Leeds Festival over the bank holiday weekend. They'll also be headlining Electric Picnic in Ireland on August 30.
Fontaines recently returned to the stage following the death of their "sixth member of the band," their manager, Trevor Dietz, who died in June of this year. Marking their first performance since Trevor's death, the band performed at the BBC's final live session at the iconic Maida Vale this month.
The band, consisting of Grian, Conor Curley, Conor, Carlos and Tom Coll, are now one of Ireland's most successful exports. Dogrel was nominated for the Mercury Prize, while their later albums, A Hero's Death and Romance, were nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2021 and 2025 Grammy Awards. That same year, their track Starburster was also up for Best Alternative Performance. They've also bagged International Group of the Year at the BRIT Awards in 2021 and last year.
